Bromyard is surrounded by lovely countryside including acres of open common land known as Bromyard Downs ( over 260 acres ) and Bringsty Common. A great place for walking & recreation with far reaching views to the Black Mountains, Malvern Hills & Clee Hills.

Here are brief descriptions of 3 recommended walks in and around Bromyard . Full details of these walks, including Maps, can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre, Rowberry Street, Bromyard.

Walk 1
2.5 Miles Approx - likely to be muddy in places

From the Heritage Information Centre, Rowberry Street. This walk will take you over the River Frome and past Hardwick Manor and the lower lodge at Buckenhill Manor. Further on you will pass Bromyard Sports Centre with rugby pitches, tennis courts and a bowling green. Following a brook you will see the Three Mills pump which used to raise water for the town's water supply, and passing St Peter's Church you return to Rowberry Street.

Walk 2
3 Miles starting from The Royal Oak on Bromyard Downs

Crossing the track of old racing-course - the last races were held in the early 1900's - you will pass Shepherds Cottage & Pool leading you to a gate of the Brockhampton estate. From here you can branch off into the National Trust Park ( £2.00 entry charge for non National Trust members ), or round off your walk past Brockhampton school climbing up the hill to be rewarded by views over the Teme Valley, the Clee Hills, the Martley Hills and way beyond to the Lickey Hills near Birmingham.

Walk 3
3 miles to Avenbury - mostly on the level with some muddy areas

Starting from the Heritage Centre in Rowberry Street you will head South towards Avenbury passing Tower Hill House built in 1630 which, tradition tells us, was shelter for Charles I in 1645. You will also see Little Frome Mill, Old Avenbury Vicarage, and the ruins of Avenbury Church.
